What is a MeCard QR Code?

MeCard is a compact contact information format originally developed by NTT DoCoMo in Japan. It encodes contact details in a simpler, shorter format than vCard, which produces smaller and more easily scannable QR codes.

While vCard is more feature-rich, MeCard is an excellent choice when you need a simpler format with fewer fields. It has strong support on Android devices and many QR code scanning apps.

MeCard vs vCard

  • Smaller data size — Produces simpler, more scannable QR codes
  • Fewer fields — Name, phone, email, URL, address, and note
  • Strong Android support — Natively recognized by most Android devices
  • Simple format — Easy to encode and decode

How to Use

  1. Enter your full name (required)
  2. Add phone number, email, website, and address as needed
  3. Customize the QR code appearance
  4. Click "Generate QR Code"
  5. Download and use on your business card or website
  6. Test by scanning — your phone should offer to save the contact

Tips & Best Practices

  • Use for simple contacts — When you only need basic fields, MeCard keeps the QR code simple
  • Choose vCard for more details — If you need job title, company, multiple phones, use vCard instead
  • Test on both platforms — While Android has strong support, iOS may vary by scanner app
  • Keep the address brief — Use a single-line address for best compatibility
